What is primary bone cancer?
Primary bone cancer is the name given to cancer that STARTS in the bones. Types of primary bone cancer include Osteosarcoma, Ewing’s Sarcoma, Chondrosarcoma, Chordoma, giant cell tumour of bone and some other exceptionally rare cancers.
Primary bone cancer is not the same as secondary bone cancer, or secondary cancers in the bone. Breast cancer, prostate cancer and some other cancer types can spread to the bone but these have very different treatment plans and disease courses from primary bone cancer, so it is important to class these separately.
Cancer that starts in the bone marrow such as myeloma, leukaemia and lymphomas are also not classed as primary bone cancers.
